おのれ【己】

1 〔自身〕 oneself; one's self.

●己に克(_か)つ conquer [control, master] oneself.

●他人のあら探しは必ず己の身に返ってくるよ. Finding fault with others will always reflect badly on you yourself.

・己の欲せざるところは人に施すなかれ. Do not force others to do what you do not like to do. | Do to others as you would have them do unto you. | Do as you would be done by. 【諺】

●己をもって人を量る take oneself as the measure of others; judge others by one's self

・己を空(_むな)しゅうして emptying the self

・己を失う become disoriented

・己を捨てて会社に尽くしてきた. I set aside my own interests and worked my heart out for the company.

・己を省みれば他人に強いことは言えまい. If you reflect on your past you won't be in a position to criticize others.

・彼は己を持するに厳たるところがある. He is inclined to be strict on himself.

・己を知れ. Know thyself.

・己を偽る be untrue to oneself.
